XARSIM - Text, Voice & Video Telephony and Messaging

XARSIM, the Xrossover Address Resolution, Stored and Instant Messaging protocol is designed to be used even (or especially) within typical SoHo environment - and to be hosted by the users themselves. All definitions and standards shall be free(ly available).

Motivation

After struggeling with all current Voice-over-IP (VoIP) protocols (SIP, H.323, Nortel's proprietary UniSTIM) and RTP/RTCP, after E-Mail is increasingly approaching inusability (with VoIP hard on its heels), it was time to develop a protocol that adresses today's needs instead of wasting time and effort in throwing patch after patch against a frail (and failing) corpse.

XARSIM was designed to be reliable, fast, slim, decentral and flexible - and turned out to be quite universal, too.
